Oh noo! My friend had an interview with 'Tempest Elite Marketing' yesterday! I was just on Twitter yesterday and my friend tweeted that she was on her way to an interview! Excitedly I replied, "good luck! Where at?xx", her reply just filled me with doom, "marketing company in Hull!Ahh scary" - my reply, "it's not tempest elite marketing is it?" :[
And from there, I explained how I had also interviewed for them and how they sell you this big idea, trying to sell the job to you, not you selling yourself to the job. It's a very odd situation - pretty sure the people I know who have interviewed for them will agree.
So anyways, this morning, my friend links her blog post about it to her Twitter, I wasn't surprised by what she had written, she had noticed things that I had failed to mention in my original blog post about them.
Anyhow, give it a read here... http://thelifethatiswaiting.blogspot.co.uk/ @HollyBellUK
Remember, comments and feedback are welcome! @DebStevo90 :)
One tip; just don't even apply with them! Unless you're well up for pounding the pavements!!

As I just posted on your friends blog..
ReplyDeleteI had a similar situation with a company in Manchester last year when I was a recent graduate looking for a job. I thought it was odd that they could interview me the very next day and after my interview rang me at 7 on the evening to ask me to start the next day. I only found out after something rang true with a friend of my mum's whose son had worked for the company for 3 months and was still yet to receive a pay packet despite spending cold days wandering round towns he didn't know trying to sell ideas to people on their doorsteps. His mum said they pretty much managed to brainwash some of the easily-influenced graduates and that they had to force their son to quit and abandon the pay he'd never received. I'm very lucky that someone had experienced it before me and could tell me it was a scam.
Thanks for your comment Rebecca! I completely agree, I find their methods very strange. They attempted to ring me about 7.15pm. I saw their number and just refused to pick up! Hah! All the money that you are going to earn is purely commission based and according to my friend, you are paid £15 per person you sign up and on average you may sign up only one person a day. Sometimes, you may not even get any at all. They convinced my friend that she could be a manager in 8 months earning ridiculous amounts of money. Yeah, I already knew it was a scam when I interviewed for the position, I did it mainly for the interview experience and to check out what they were doing. I wasn't surprised by what I was witness to, however, I do believe that something should be done about these companies.
ReplyDeleteAgain, thank you for your comment Rebecca!
I'd just like to back this up and say that this 'company' changes it's name and moves city every 6 months or so to exploit more young jobseekers. I worked for the same company, run by Qaysar Bhatti, or 'Q' as he likes to be called. When I worked for them they were operating under the name 'Little Marketing Solutions' - I was promised 8 hour days, 4 days a week and £200 a week basic wage plus commission. What I got was 12+ hour days and no basic wage. Rebecca got it exactly right - they brainwash their employees into thinking they've found a golden opportunity. I cannot put into words my utter contempt for 'Q'. I had such a bad experience there that I actively search the net from time to time looking for opportunities to discourage people from joining this scam!
ReplyDeleteGood post, I hope something is done about this kind of thing.
I met Q! He was strange - really didn't like this guy! They're just a suspicious company, their office is in a block of flats in the old town in Hull. The office is actually a converted flat. Shocking, plus they publicize themselves as being as 'graduate' jobs. They're not, it is all commission based work. Disgusting.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I found your blog about this company the day before my "preliminary appointment" with them! I mean, I already had my doubts about how reliable this company was and after looking through their website and Google nothing came close to convincing me they were. *Appointment for 8/11/2012 Cancelled*
ReplyDeleteA couple of days later - today - I got an e-mail from S.P.Y Acquisitions, another company I applied to looking for office work. They basically said the same thing as Tempest wanting to see me to "discuss these opportunities in further detail" so I should give them a call and book an appointment, and that I did. A couple of minutes later I received a conformation e-mail, after looking through this I noticed how their Hull Based Office had the same number as Tempest and the same address, hmmmmmm. This raised so many alarm bells, however I thought possibly their offices just happen to be in the same building and the number may be for the main reception of the whole building then they'd connect you to which ever company blah blah blah.
BUT then, the more I looked into it I noticed BOTH were on the 2nd floor, Suite 6 of the same building! Yup, that just did it for me either they're the same people running several companies or it's the same company posing with different names. Either way they can't be trusted.
I am still yet to cancel my appointment with S.P.Y. and now I'm thinking whether I should or not. Should I still attend and see what this whole thing is about? My friends are saying no for various safety reasons, most are far fetched! (been watching way too many films) Though I see their point, I'm still curious on what this whole shenanigan is about.
Wow, I am also glad that you found this blog! Obviously, I can't make the decision as to whether you cancel or not, my advice would be to go along and sit and listen to what Q has to say because then you'll really understand the bullshit they're pushing. Obviously, if you don't think you should go, don't. But for you to truly understand how ridiculous they are, I say keep the appointment.
